I second everything Alison said... and I might add that once you hit your 40's, your skin will start to look leathery and wrinkled... I've seen it many times. I used to tan a lot and have never taken caution in the sun, mostly because I'm 22 and I can't even imagine myself at 40... but my mom is 42 and she was still tanning until a year ago. It's funny because I worried about her so much but never about myself. She stopped because she saw a horrible case of skin cancer, and I stopped because I want to look young when I get older (and live longer!).

Yes, get a good sunless tanning cream and apply it daily. Getting a natural tan may feel great and look great when you're 20, but it gets really ugly down the line. The damage you do now is irrevocable and is setting you up for skin cancer. If you get that, not only is your tanning over, so is your enjoyment in the sun.
Use a 35 block, and look young forever, that's way prettier than a tan :D

Almost famous is great tanning lotion! It costs about $60...but it is worth it. I have found that when I keep lotion on, my tan not only lasts longer but gets darker.

I like the body cream at bath and body works. It's heavier than most lotions, so it keeps the moisture in better. And make sure you moisturize, moisturize, moisturize, to keep your tan.
