No, I honestly cannot. There is no situation in which each and every individual personality would unite towards any common goal. Not for life, not for riches, not for anything.

Great Question. I'm non religious...but I think only a "return of Christ" would have a chance to unite all people. Alien Invasion is a good one. But using your same example of Independence Day, how many people in the movie were saying the "Aliens were our friends"? I would think that Terrorism would fit that Alien definition as terrorists seem to target (not hate...target) unbiasly.

Impending World Doom is another good one. Armaggedon, the example used most often, how many people were arguing about whether to detonate or wait? And I think Global Warming would fit the role of impending world doom.

Point is, people will always have different ideas for how situations should be handled. It's sad, but the reality is, I don't think humans could ever truely unite, unless what the Bible says is true, and Christ's coming brings about that unity. However, How many people will hate Christ? How many people will reject his "light and truth"? So I guess the only answer is sadly "nothing"

VERY GOOD QUESTION! MY FAV!

I can concieve two possibilities for total human unity.

1. If Aliens from outer space attempted to conquer or exterminate us, I think that all of mankind would band together to fight a common enemy. But even if we were to defeat the alien invaders, the unity would be temporary. As soon as the war was over, we'd start fighting again over who owns the recovered alien technology. Then there would probably be a Cold War type of arms race.

2. Perhaps in some far advanced, futuristic society, people will have implants placed in their brains to control their thoughts, emotions and behavior. Such implants could eliminate the feelings selfishness and fear that cause conflict and promote feelings of love and togetherness. I guess it would sort be like a whole society on XTC. But no one would fight anymore and all would be peaceful and united.

I thought I had an idea... I came up with "if we were faced with the risk of annihilation by an alien race or unstoppable disease, we probably would..." but then I thought about it, and decided, you know what? We very most likely would not, even in that dire situation, put aside our cultural, personal and religious differences enough for every man, woman, and child to join in unity to save ourselves. I would like to think that, at the least, would be the case, but honestly, I don't see it happening. I am a Christian, and rejoice for each person to comes to believe in Jesus, and I hope nonetheless that whatever people believe in they can keep their differences aside and live and work together in love to each other, all fellowhumans who God has created.

Oh yeah, I like Bella's answer, lol. THAT would work... (unless that person was a schizophrenic :P )

the day that man first landed on the moon. I was reading about this day and it described the streets in many countries as cheering, they werent sayin "America Landed on the moon" they were celebrating that "we landed on the moon" as a united people. I'm normally a pretty cynical person, but this brought warm feelings in my tummy, There are also the events in "Indepedence day" and "Armageddon" these movies showed people of the earth hoping and praying for survival. Nothing like a good ol' fashioned alien invasion to bring people together. Of course it doesn't show those jack assses saying "we have it coming"

I can think of two but they are very out of this world.

1. Unite in arms against an attack from another life force or world.

2. Under Utopian rule. Where all religion, discrimination, and predigest was out lawed.
Where no man has personal wealth and almost everyone is working toworlds the great good of the world.

I wrote a poem called if onl, your qeustion brings it to mind, so here it is...
"If Only"
If only,
Loves were never lost.
If only,
The world could find peace.
If only,
Everone could live, and let live.
If only,
Everyone could forgive, and let grudges go.
If only,
Homes never were broken, and hatred never exsisted.
If only,
Mistakes were never made, and the world were perfect.
If only,
We could go a day, without starting a meaniless argument.
If only,
Loved ones never died, and went on forever, without any pain.
If only,
Kidnappings never happened, and it were safe for children to roam freely.
If only,
Sucide and homicide never exsisted, or happened, making the world safe.
If only,
There were a chance in hell for any of this happening in my lifetime or any of yours.
If only........

I think if we had all this maybe mankind would unite and we would have piece at last, i'm not sure why I chose this, there is no rhyme to my reson, nor method to my madness.

Alien invasion, from Bozania.

Really, there's nothing like having a single enemy that would hate all of us equally, for us to unite.

Incidentally, this reminds me of an episode of the twilight zone where we were created by an alien race, and one day, that alien race came back and told us that we have been a disappointment because of our wars. Then they gave us 24 hrs to correct it. In that 24 hours, every nation in the world signed a peace treaty and presented it to the aliens. Unfortunately, it turned out that they were disappointed that we didn't have enough wars. Bye bye earth.

The situation could be love if we could all come together and love one another regardless of race cred or anything we could maybe then unite. there are so many other things to think about but this one really comes to mind and is what some of us are trying to do but there are so many problems in this world that i wonder if it will ever happen.

The only time on earth we'll see peace for all mankind is when one unites us, Christ when he returns, til then, we're all human, all sinful beings, only one type of love will unite us all, if all recognize Christ, not chants or mantras or just handing out flowers...I dont think Saddam would have gotten the message, do you?

This might sound weird, and completely not plausible, but alien attacks. If aliens were attacking, we'd all have a common enemy. We'd have to work together despite race, religion or country, and fight as HUMANS and as EARTH. It of course, will probably never happen, but that's the only thing I can think of.
