Right click on the task bar (or start bar) then click Task Manager. A window with several tabs will show up. Click on the Processes tab to see a list of what is running in the background.
When does the slowdown in speed happen? Access is sometimes slow during peak hours. Also if you are using a wireless router, interference from other appliances you have running will affect the speed at which you can access the internet. Try setting your router channel (if you are using one) to channel 1, 6, or 11.

Get a No Cost Background Check Scan at https://bitly.im/aNCOJ
Its a sensible way to start. The site allows you to do a no cost scan simply to find out if any sort of data is in existence. A smaller analysis is done without cost. To get a detailed report its a modest payment.
You may not realize how many good reasons there are to try and find out more about the people around you. After all, whether you're talking about new friends, employees, doctors, caretakers for elderly family members, or even significant others, you, as a citizen, have a right to know whether the people you surround yourself with are who they say they are. This goes double in any situation that involves your children, which not only includes teachers and babysitters, but also scout masters, little league coaches and others. Bottom line, if you want to find out more about someone, you should perform a background check.

PC Running Slow, Hangs, Freezes:
- Many users are not aware of how much RAM is used by wallpaper and/or a screensaver full of graphics. They run in the background and consume memory. (I have only 512mb RAM and have set my wallpaper and screensaver to blank.
- How many programs do you load at startup? Maybe you should check it out and ensure you are running just what you need.
To do this: cl Start, cl Settings, cl Taskbar and Start Menu.
- cl Start Menu, cl Customize, cl Remove.
- cl the icon for the program you wish to remove
- then cl Remove.
- This will prevent the program from loading at startup, but will not remove the program from the hard disk.
- When you are working in a large file, save frequently to restore full memory access. (Your work remains in memory until you “save” it to disk.)
1. Did you run an error check? Open My Computer,
Right-cl on C:, Select Properties, Tools – Run an Error Check ( checkmark “check all and fix); then run a Defrag
2. Are you using Yahoo Toolbar? Run a full Norton Antispy.
3. From IE, click Tools, Internet Options
delete cookies
delete files (offline files)
clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want)
click o.k., and Restart
3. click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools – run Disk Cleanup
4. click Start, Run ipconfig renew (type ipconfig space renew)
All these things should be done regularly. The more frequently they are run, the less time they take.
- Note: Games and videos are mostly graphics. Graphics create large files. If this doesn’t help, you should consider getting more memory.
If you want to see what is running at any given time, press Control+Alt+Delete simultaneously to get the Task Manager.
Just look. If you want to eliminate any programs from loading at startup do it through the Startup Menu.

alt+ctrl+delete sometimes you can get trojans that will disguise them selves as other programs or corrupt those programs get AVG virus detector its free and does a good job at killing all the nasty things windows lets in, XP is not a very safe OS things like Macs and Linux are better things to run but seeing microsoft has patented or had some of the people whos programs run on their machines sign contracts not to make a release for other OS' sometimes it can be difficult to use the programs you want so you are stuck with something as unsafe as XP. Security when running windows should be your main objective do regular virus scans make sure they are up to date don't open emails from people you do not know or ones from people you do know that may seem suspicious.

Open the task manager (Ctrl + Alt + Delete or right-click the bar on the bottom, then click task manager), then click on the Processes tab.
A lot of hidden programs run around Windows. It's risky, but you could try ending the processes of some recognizable programs (like iTunes) to make it faster.
If you're not sure about something, then don't end it. Sometimes they're critical system files.

To see what programs are running you should download a freeware by name " Hijack this" by this program you can see all the application etc running on your PC.Remove unknown programs. Secondly you should install a software "winXP Manager" which will clean up all junk files as well as your registry too. Thirdly you must have Zone Alarm Security suit v7 on your system. After running those three S/Ws you will have a very fast system.

Click on "Start", then "Run", and then type in "MSCONFIG" (without the quotes.) Then click on the "Startup" tab, and that will show you the applications that are running. Check for ones you don't need, such as RealPlayer Update, etc, and disable them ONE AT A TIME and then reboot after each one you disable. Read the page at the link below to get further info before you do any of this. Good luck.

Push CTRL, ALT and Delete at the same time and you can see everything running. Also try going to Tools on your web-browser, then into internet options ->Delete Files and Cookies, that should speed up your internet.

How much junk is in your start up group?
Everything but anti virus or security software and windows task manager can be removed from your start up. Use the MSCONFIG to shut down what you don't need starting up.
Clear out your temp files and internet cache folders, defrag your hard drive, turn off screensavers and desktop pictures and you should speed up.
