Thinking on your feet and being ready when the teachers ask you questions are two different things. To be ready when teachers ask you questions, study, do the assigned work, and ask questions if you don't understand. That way, when you are asked about something in class, you don't have to think on your feet, because you know the answer.
As for thinking on your feet, practice makes perfect! Some people are naturally good at this, some people have to work hard at it. Oh yeah, coming from a teacher, sometimes we don't mind an honest "I don't know" as an answer.

t think it is like going back and using your past experiences. You know what worked in a similar situation so you do it again. Sometimes you change it a little to fit. That's where the thinking comes in.I had to do it a lot on the job. I didn't know what was coming. The more you do it the better you get at it.
