I am 8 months pregnant and dont know if this is pregnancy related or what but i am so tired but cant sleep because when i lay down i feel really short of breath with chest tightness and some wheezing. It also does not help that my nose is completly plugged up and useless. I of course am getting nervous about this and dont know if i should wake my fiance up or not. Does this sound like its pregnancy related or should i call a dr? Also it is a little better when sitting up but i still feel slightly short of breath with a little tightness.

This happened to me while i was pregnant! My doctor told me its normal! He gave me an inhaler! Its because the baby is pushing on your organs and they are being pushed making it harder to breathe but Yes its normal! I would not worry, but if it really scares you call the doctor just to make yourself feel better! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

for your stuffy nose:
I would go sit in the bathroom with a hot shower going. Read your child birth books a little bit about 30 minutes.

I just ran and looked in my Mayo clinic book and it does say you should call the doctor with wheezing. The stuffy nose could be the pregnancy but the wheezing isn't normal. (maybe your getting a chest cold due to the lack of room to deep breathe because of the baby.)

It is always worth being safe when it comes to your health and your bundle.

Sleeping better: you have had some good answers here already. But I love the recliner for comfort the best.
Now for tomorrow can you have your fiance put some heavy blankets under the head of your mattress. this will raise you up letting the baby use gravity so you can have little more comfort. And it really shouldn't bother him either, So you two can sleep soundly together.

Good luck hun and congratulations

It sounds as if you may have a touch of bronchitis since you are clogged up also. Can you hear yourself wheeze? The weight of the pregnancy is not helping any thing either, right? Try to put an extra pillow under your head and see if that will help any. If I were you, I would not try to take anything until I talk to my doctor about it. I know you must be miserable. If the extra pillow doesn't help, go into the bath room, turn the shower on- hot water only, with the door shut and sit down and breathe in the steam for a few minutes; hopefully, this might help to open you up so you are not as stuffy, which in turn will help with your lungs. Good luck. By the way, if you get to the point that it is really, really hard to breathe, go on to the ER.

I assume this is your first? Well congrats at that, but I'll tell you, being that I'm not a rookie anymore, welcome to the 3rd trimester. I know it sucks but that mostly what everyone goes through. I have 4 wks to go and I feel for you. Try laying on your left side and using Lots of pillows. If that doesn't help try sleeping propped up so you can breath better. Then soon the baby will drop and your pelvic bone won't let you sleep. LOL!! Isn't pregnancy just grand!! Hope you feel better!!!!!!

I have two pregnancy books and they both say it is totally normal in the later stages of pregnancy to be short of breath. You can always call your doctor for peace of mind though. The baby is most likely putting pressure on your lungs and if your nose is already clogged then that doesn't help the situation. Good Luck!

Of course, if you are concerned this is not normal, call the ER and just tell them what term you are in and your symptoms. They may tell you to come in just to get checked. If you have tightness in your chest, that may be something to have looked at.

Shortness of breath is common in later pregnancy, as you are right now, I experienced it, but to say I had tightness in my chest, I'd have to say no. Elevation helps. My last 3 weeks I probably slept in the lounger more than my bed.

But again, if you are overly concerned, a call the the ER wouldn't hurt.

Good Luck! And congrats on the pregnancy and almost birth of your child!

Hey, I'll be 31 weeks the next day to come, due January sixth, 2010. I'm 5foot 2inches tall. My legs are longer than my torso, so I have a brief torso. I jsut not too long ago felt my daughter in my ribs a couple of nights in the past, truthfully for the primary time ever. The different night time (approximately two nights in the past) I felt her in my ribs earlier than I obtained as much as cross pee. Maybe your daughter is to your ribs, best at night time while you are snoozing? Then once more, Maybe no longer, it jsut all is dependent. I additionally do not know the way you are wearing, however I'm wearing my daughter lovely low, so tha tmgiht give a contribution to a few of it. :) Good Luck & Congrats!

As a new mommy to a beautiful baby daughter born in September I will tell you that it is very normal. Your little one is just pressed up against your diaphragm. He/she does not have anywhere to go, especially if baby is engaged head down. I had to sleep in a chair pretty much for the last week (she came 3 week early... thankfully). If you truly cannot breath and you have tried sleeping in a chair or sitting up you might want to see a doctor as it would not do you any good to be tired so close to your baby's birth. BUT it is normal and happens to many women.

Do you have a recliner you can sleep in? Or prop yourself up with some pillows on the bed or sofa? I think a little shortness of breath is normal and maybe your anxiety is making you panic and hyperventilate or messing up your breathing. Try to relax and definitely call your dr. in the morning. Or if you have a nurses hotline, call them tonight to discuss it with them. Most likely it's nerves and tension.

Best wishes!

My wife isn't pregnant but she has breathing problems. She uses a cpap machine. But to get to your question, the technician who set up the machine said that lying down on your back with the extra weight could compress the bronchial tubes making it difficult to breathe. I would have never thought of that, i thought the tubes were more ridgid than that. Of course your sinus problems contribute to your breathing problems. You could have sleep apnea which could be causing the fatigue.
