I used to be, as most of the posters are responding. I used to be very religious, and when I was "good" I believed I was going to heaven and death was more of a transition than an event. Then as I start pulling away from the religion, I was afraid of hell and the eternal pain, that I was raised to believe would happen if I died out of god's good graces. Actually I don't think I was ever afraid of death as much as what happens after death.
Today, I believe when I die, that's it. There's no afterlife no reincarnation no nothing. So I'm no longer afraid of death or beyond.
***That's my opinion I hope I didn't offend anyone. My apologies if I did.

My father passed away August 2005. Since then, I view death in a different way. I am not scarred anymore. I believe I will see him again when I die. And the rest of my family. My only problem with dying now is my children. I want to see them grow and become people that make a difference. I can't imagine leaving them so young. Other than that, it is something we all must accept.

I think it's more the process of dying that scares me than the actuality of being dead. But then, I've had horrific accidents in my life, the latest being run over by a locomotive and drug down the track a couple of hundred feet and losing my right leg above the knee and a few more injuries, so I'm not sure of why I'm afraid if I've endured that, but then, there's a lot more difficult ways to die, and it's those ways I fear. But, if I'm truly a Christian, why should I be afraid of being dead from this world. It only ensures me a home in Heaven. God Bless you.

Everyone is afraid of dying. It's natural to fear death. Self-preservation is the most basic instinct. You may say you don't fear death, but if someone had a gun to your head I bet you'd change your mind.

I noticed that for some people, an ending is in fact more reassuring than being stuck in heaven for ever and ever and ever. I never understood that myself, but I've known two of my friends to say that.
I wouldn't want to die, however. Because I've still got too many things to live for. I need to see my kids grow up and finish college.
And I'm still hoping the Philippines will win the world cup. (Right now, they're ranked 180th in the world, I think.)

Everyone is afraid of dying. We are the product of 3.5 billion years of organisms that jumped to avoid death. The ones that didn't fear it were taken by it and didn't reproduce.

"We all want to go to Heaven, but none of us wants to die".
I do not really fear death. Though, I do fear for the people around me...I've seen death many times (my dad, my grandparents, aunts, uncles..). Sometimes it came like a thief in the night, other times it was long and drawn out over a course of many years. So, I guess you could say I fear a painful death.

If you think about it, no, it isn't.
But people are scared because they love all of the stuff here on earth... their family, friends, and people they care about... the wonderful arts... the food (lol)... just everything about life. And most people just don't want to give all of that up, and venture into a world where no one knows what (if anything) will happen.
Some people just love life as it is, and don't want it to go away.

Nope, not scared at all. Already been there, done it and came on back with more than a few jolts to the ticker.
There are no bright lights, just lots of flames.
