I have been on birth control for 5 years and I stopped taking it in December. When a woman stops taking the pill can her periods be messed up for awhile? Im askin this because I had my period twice last month (once was more like spotting) and I have not started this month yet. Is this common when stopping the pill or could it be something else?

It can take a while for a woman’s body to adjust back to a normal menstrual cycle when she has stopped taking hormonal forms of birth control. While some women may return to a normal menstrual cycle right away, others can take as long as a year. If you want to try to conceive, it may be a good idea to first wait until you’ve had two to three normal menstrual cycles. This will give your body time to adjust to life without the extra hormones, making it better able to deal with a pregnancy.

Yes, irregular periods can persist for a few months after discontinuing bc pills. If after 3-4 months there is still irregularity, seek a physician's opinion. Oh, and make sure you're not pregnant :-)

I didn't ovulate for 2 months after stopping the pill. I didn't ovulate for 8 months after stopping Depo. You may not ovulate this month. Sometimes it can take any where from 1 month to 18 months to begin ovulating again.

eeee..Yeah I had my period for a whole month. Pretty heavy too, until I went back to my Gyn and she put me on something to stop and then regulate it...it was very uncomfortable and I was scared...but she eased my worry and said it can happen. I would just be sure to call her if it continues to stay irregular.
