I'm sure you're passionate about your own personal beliefs. Political parties are where people with similar views push for similar results, thus there is a huge incentive to defend your "side" from opposing viewpoints.

I read in a science journal last year that there were strong indications that passion for politics was genetic. The same may be true for the predilection to be fervently religious.

The unexplained remains: How can perfectly nice people who are bright (otherwise) possible conclude that George Bush is a good president after all the evidence to the contrary? Or others may wonder how one could possibly be convinced that Bill Clinton had been a good president when he was impeached? Go figure.

If you don't feel passionate, you are blessed- in a sense. Being a person who is strongly politically motivated (I'm liberal) I find myself very frustrated with the system.
Being political has put passion in my life, but not a lot of comfort---I risk raising my blood pressure every time I hear Limbaugh or Hannity or O' Reilly---but I still laugh when I hear Ann Coulter---only an idiot would take her seriously.
But back to your topic--if it doesn't sway you one way or the other, be thankful--I do make my decisions based on facts--but we all see things with a tilt to the left or the right whether we realize it or not.

I firmly believe that the disturbed persons you are talking about are the same people that don't bother to vote but have plenty to say about everything. They belong to the disgruntled party, it has no platform and no leader. You don't have to be fanatical to be a loyal member of the party, common sense should rule, but it doesnt always. You can be passionate about anything, but you don't shove it in someones throat. Respect for your fellow man. Discussion is good for everyone.

Good question. And I'm with Alex - the other side scares the hell out of me.

Nothing wrong with you at all. I think politics is like anything else - you either have the passion, or you don't. I'm very passionate about it, my husband isn't at all. (He says I get worked up enough for both of us!) My best friend hates it, her husband loves it.

Everyone has their own passion. Someone close to me lives his - he's a very successful hunting guide. Me? Couldn't do it. Same type of thing.

Modernly, the Democrat party has stood for large government reform; protection of minority rights; lowering government spending/lowering the national Debt; and international family members in coping with worldwide affairs, as unfavorable to blindly lashing out and destroying the governments of one/3 worldwide international locations.

The same place you gain such passion being independent.

The cool thing about political opinions, is that like you know whats, everyone has one (and some are just more interested in holding forth).

IMO, Alex is correct.

Ok, dont want to sound too serious here, but I think people feel a real need to be connected to something--to support and defend it. I believe humans are wired that way. Maybe it's part of that whole "protective instinct." =)

I can only speak for myself. I'm a conservative/independent. I refuse to support any of the parties. I am impassioned because I know I've done my homework, I'm right and I've earned t. NEXT!!!

I guess it just depends on your beliefs. Democrats and Republicans have different views on almost everything.

I am pretty far right, only because I am a very conservative person. It all just depends on what you want your future to be like.
