I'm not anywhere near done with my homework, but I'm too sleepy to really do a good job. Also, if I don't go to bed soon, I won't get much sleep and I'll be in the same shape tomorrow. So is it best just to let yourself get a little behind so that you are restful?

It really depends on when you started. Did you start late, or do you have so much that it took you from the moment school let out to the momenent you needed to go to bed? Either way, learn to prioritize. Start with the thngs due first. Don't waste your time with homework due a week from now when you have some due tomorrow. Turn the TV off, turn the cellphone off, and as soon as you get home, hit the books. Maybe take a break every once in a while. Take a walk, have a snack to keep your mind clear and focused. If you still aren't done and t's bedtime, get as much as you can done, and maybe work on it in the morning.

Falling behind should be kept to an absolute minimum, but your health will factor in sharply. You are correct that if you do not get enough sleep tonight, you may find yourself in the same sleepy position tomorrow night. Try a quick nap, or a full-night's sleep. Wake up earlier than you normally would and do as much homework as you can. Talk to your professor if you are finding the workload too much, or start work earlier if you typically put it off. Go as long as possible without letting this happening again, because falling behind is a slippery slope.

I am in the same situation. I just woke up from a nap. I usually take 1 or 2 hour nap, and then I go back to do homework.

I used to have that problem all the time. Take an hour of nap or get up at 5:30 am, take a shower, drink a cup of coffee and start again.

Don't get behind, if you can avoid it at all. It's a slippery slope.
