I thought this would be an interesting question.

I for example am a liberal. Don't instantly hate me ok. Liberals do have a PR problem. I don't sit at Starbucks and read poetry. I don't hug trees. I don't have hairy armpits. I DO live in suburbia. I drive an SVU. I donate my time and talents to my family, church and community. I am also a Christian (a Mormon even). A few hot button Issues: am pro-peace, pro-life, against gay marriage (civ. unions. ok) I know liberalism is a philosophy (freedom of thought, religion, helping the poor and weaker among us, universal education & healthcare, no war for profits etc..) There are so many untrue stereotypes. In my frame of reference it's hard to make ANY of these stereotypes. Both liberal and conservative.

Anyway, are there stereotypes? Are you one? Who are you?

I'm conservative and don't fit the stereotype either.

I am a divorced single mother of 3, I am a vegetarian and have been for many years because I love horses and the earth and like wide open spaces. I am an artist and owned my own art gallery in an artsy town. I like renaissance and middle history and love to watch sci fi and kung fu movies. I used to work in a museum, and I now work in education and work with juvies in locked facility in a bad part of the city. I was raised catholic and my best friends are jewish. I write science fiction and fantasy stories.
I am pro-life, for the death penalty, and believe a strong military is our best defense. I am against illegals. I pass all those mensa level tests. I believe in small government and a fiscally conservative gov.
So no, I don't fit stereotypes either in some ways but I do in others.

Good question, and well written, too.

I remember hearing someone once say that there can be no stereotypes in this country unless they have 2.5 children and live in a home with 2.6 vehicles.

I always thought that made sense - everyone is different, despite the fact that professional advertisers and other "experts" try relentlessly to gather us into groups or target markets.

I also believe stereotyping often leads to bigotry and perhaps racism. It's much more important to concern yourself with the individual - and try to avoid stereotyping an entire group.

By the way, you don't drive an SVU (Special Victims Unit?) - However, you may drive an SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle).
(Being an individual with a hobby concerning vintage vehicles, I couldn't resist pointing that out.)

You're self description isn't liberal as the term is usually used. Pro life & anti gay marriage is definitely not liberal. As for pro peace, no sane person isn't. The only dispute is over the best wat to reach a durable peace in the long run. Many self described liberals are opposed to freedom of thought & religion. They try to silence those with whom they disagree & oppose all religion except violent Islam.

The terms liberal & conservative, as used today are much different than the classic definitions. I'm not sure what label best defines you.

I'm basically Neocon. I think that the 1st responsibility of any govt is to protect the citizens. If you are dead, nothing else matters. I think that Islamofascism is a major threat to our way of life & even our lives. I don't care about gay marriages or civil unions or whatever anyone wants to call it. I am against courts creating laws. That is the job of the legislative branch. On fiscal matters, I'm for whatever gives us a strong economy. Historical evidence is that cutting tax rates is good for the economy, so I am for them.

I think you are actually correct about how you break down liberal vs. conservative.

Contrary to stereotypes, conservatives do not exist simply to be pro-life and anti-gay marriage. In fact, these views stem from our desire to uphold States' Rights, and prevent further judicial legislating.

We are against big government spending on social programs, universal healthcare. And we do not view profit as evil.

As others have pointed out, conservatives prefer to give privately of their time and money to charitable organizations, and we want the government to stay as much out of our lives as possible.

But hey, this is America, be what you wanna' be.

Ever in view that i used to be little and til nowadays I've constantly referred to as my mum "Mummy" and my dad "Daddy". Just since they under no circumstances replied to "mum"/"dad". And it is constantly caught, I believe. Same with my siblings, too. I swear each time my mom calls me at paintings, and that i reply pronouncing "hello, mummy", I get probably the most strangest appears from my paintings colleagues. They constantly uncover that hilarious and more commonly take the mic. And I can without doubt see why it is humorous lol But, it is under no circumstances transformed, and I doubt it is going to. Mum and Dad will constantly be Mummy and Daddy. And probably since they would possibly not reply to some thing else from their youngsters! : )

How would you stereotype someone who is neither, but also both,I don't pretend to try to regulate things that have little bearing on my life,I select my political choices solely on their merits, and not some affiliation, I believe the "gift.is in the giving",that children need to be protected, and it's the responsibility of everyone to make an honest effort to follow the laws set forth for the en-betterment of the nation as a whole( Free-thinker?)

The stereotypes I always hear are conservatives are extreme christians, and generally rich old white men. Liberals are pro gay marriage and abortion, and anti religion (before the sea of bad ratings hit keep in mind, im saying these are the stereotypes I hear, not that theyre true ....in every case). Anyway I have yet to define myself as a liberal or a conservative. I was raised in a VERY conservative family...I have many views that i'd consider conservative (I am a christian, and im pro life) and I have views I'd consider liberal..so I dont think I really fit any stereo type..I kinda fall in the middle. But as far as voting, I vote based on morals..usually the conservative party fits my morals so I tend to vote for them more. (because most conservatives are anti abortion, and thats a huge issue for me)

LOL I appreciate your candor! I have lots of liberal friends. I don't instantly dislike someone just for their politics, unless they're trying to be offensive to me.

Yep, I definitely fit part of the stereotype. Gun totin', horse racin', truck drivin' girl who thinks 5 acres of land is way too little. Fly my flag proudly, properly lit, of course.

Have a great job and a good man - we both work our butts off to have what we do. We're proud to be Americans and are grateful for what we've got.
