I remember watching it in southern calif, i beleive it was broadcast on sunset strip in the 60's

Yes I do. I remember the first time I seen him, I was amazed that he could say some of the things he said on TV. Very out spoken, I was totally in awe of him. I think, just because I had not seen anyone get so mouthy with people that called in.
Geez, right now today, he would be considered pretty mild.

Yes, I remember. My mom used to love it when I was in my teens. It was maybe the first real talk show. I remember he once had a guest on his show, an Afro-American for Goldwater who said and showed that he had a gun which he used to defend his junk jewelry store. On the next show, Joe Pine announced that the cops had showed up at the studio to arrest the guy for illegal possession of a gun, but they didn't arrest him because the gun was fake; so Joe Pine had to explain to the audience why the guy wasn't arrested. Oh for the good old days.
