I live in a small city of about 37,000 people in north-central Massachusetts and from my observations I think it's mostly Democrat. Probably 2/3 are Democrat.

Democrat. But we have a "Republican" mayor. Michael R. Bloomberg. A former Democrat.
Best mayor we EVER had. He's the best of both worlds.
