This is a milestone chart:

By 7 months most babies are able to do these well:
• Sits without support
• Drags objects toward herself

About half of them can
• Lunges forward or starts crawling
• Jabbers or combines syllables
• Starts to experience stranger anxiety

A few kids can:
• Waves goodbye
• Stands while holding onto something
• Bangs objects together
• Begins to understand object permanence

By 8 months most babies are able to do these well:
• Says "mama" and "dada" to both parents (isn't specific)
• Passes objects from hand to hand

About half of them can:
• Stands while holding onto something
• Crawls
• Points at objects
• Searches for hidden objects

A few of them can:
• Pulls self to standing, cruises
• Picks things up with thumb-finger pincer grasp
• Indicates wants with gestures

How is your little boy otherwise? Maybe he enjoys talking more than physically doing things. Children develop at different rates and you may want check in with your pediatrician at your 9 month well visit or sooner just to make sure everything is ok. It may be nothing, but it could be something worth knowing.

As far as what you can do, I put my daughter in a bouncer at 5 months and she enjoyed it up until around her first birthday. I think it helped her develop the muscle strength necessary for some of the things babies do. She sat early, she walked early; but then again she's 13 months now and the only times she speaks (that people can actually understand) is when she shouts yes when I start making her a meal.

BTW the source I listed below is an awesome site if you haven't already joined it. It has come in handy many times! They have development charts and advice and stuff.
Good luck!

I know all kids reach milestones at different ages, but that seems a little late to me. My daughter will be 6 mos on jan 21st and she has been sitting since about a week after she turned 5 mos. My oldest daughter was standing by 8 mos and began walking at 9mos. I think you should speak to you childs pediatrician to make sure that he is developing at a healthy rate.

My son was a huge baby, missed the sitting stage, was actually crawling before he could be trusted sitting without falling,,,, each child is different, but you should talk to a paediatrician,

Maybe his head is too heavy still like Charlie Brown.
Don't worry he will adjust.
