It seems that everytime my 4 month old starts laughing, she gets the hiccups. If I can get her to take a drink of water, it seems to help, but I can hardly ever get her to take a drink when she has the hiccups. I read that blowing in their face or taking them out into the cold air for a minute will solve it, but it doesn't seem to work. Anyone know why this happens or how I can make them go away? She spits up alot when she hiccups, and it just shakes her whole little body. Thanks in advance for any ideas

When I had hiccups as a baby (a malfunction produced by gas) my father would pat my back (drum up my back) in an upward motion, from the base, to between the shoulder blades. This always solved the problem. Try it, it just might work for you!

well if she gets the hiccups every once and a while try again to hold her breath and drink a cup of water if she spits up all the time just cause she has the hiccups you should keep track of how many times she spits up if it reaches 3 then you should see a doctor quick. hope this works!best of luck!

This happened to my niece for a few weeks when she was younger. When laughing they tend to suck up a lot of air, thus causing the hiccups. They are hard to get rid of, however. If you can give her water, that works best, as far as I know.

As adults we always feel so sorry for them when they get the hiccups, but they bother us much more than they bother them! Whenever my little one gets them I nurse her and that gets rid of them almost immediately. If you don't nurse then try gripe water, that can work too.

Its normal, babies can hiccup for a LONG time before it effects or hurts them. They just have little diaphrams, and weak muscle control, don't worry. Unless she's screaming or really crying, its fine.

All babies get hiccups. They will get less and less as the baby gets older. My little one use to get them all the time, and I felt so bad for him being so little. They say it's cause the diaphram is not developed 100% and as it develops this will become less and less!!

I know it seems bad, but hiccups don't seem to bother babies the way they do us. Try nursing her, but theres really not much you can do.
