This should get you started. It was just one more incident of the white man screwing over the Native Americans. They even have an Heirloom Bean called the Trail of Tears.
The Trail of Tears refers to the forced relocation in 1838 of the Cherokee Native American tribe to the Western United States, which resulted in the deaths of an estimated 4,000 Cherokees. In the Cherokee language, the event is called Nunna daul Isunyi—"the Trail Where They Cried." The Cherokees were not the only Native Americans forced to emigrate during this; the phrase "Trail of Tears" is sometimes used to refer to similar events endured by other Indian peoples, especially among the "Five Civilized Tribes," which consisted of The Seminole, Creek, Chickisaw, Choctaw, and Cherokee Indians. The phrase may have originated as a description of the earlier emigration of the Choctaw nation.
The Cherokee Trail of Tears resulted from the enforcement of the Treaty of New Echota, an agreement signed under the provisions of the Indian Removal Act of 1830, which exchanged Native American land in the east for lands west of the Mississippi River. In December 1835, the U.S. sought out a minority to effect a treaty at New Echota, Georgia. Only 300 to 500 Cherokees were there; none were elected officials of the Cherokee Nation. Twenty unelected Cherokee men signed the treaty, ceding all Cherokee territory east of the Mississippi to the U.S., in exchange for $5 million and new homelands in Indian Territory.

The 1830s discovery of gold in Cherokee territory resulted in pressure by whites to obtain their lands. A treaty was extracted from a small part of the tribe, binding the whole people to move beyond the Mississippi River within three years. Although the Cherokee overwhelmingly repudiated this document and the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the nation's autonomy, the state of Georgia secured an order for their removal, which was accomplished by military force. President Andrew Jackson refused to intervene, and in 1838 the tribe was deported to the Indian Territory (now in Oklahoma). Thousands died on the march, known as the "Trail of Tears," or from subsequent hardships. Their leader at this time and until 1866 was Chief John Ross.
it was a great suffering for the cherokkes they lost there home and alot of them lost there lives on this joourney.
at this point they new some english because they were trading with the "white men" ( using that term lightly)
the name "trail of tears" was named by "white men" the cherokee langage is very complex.

The U.S. government under Andrew Jackson forced the Cherokee people to leave their land on the East coast and moved them to Oklahoma. The U.S. Supreme Court told the president that the move was against the law but he refused to obey them.
The "Trail of Tears" deals with them being forced to leave their homes and getting sick and dieing on the way to their new home. Over one third died on the way to Oklahoma and another fourth or so died soon after arriving.
