I have ran out of my gabapentine and was wondering if there is an over the counter substitute, I was taking it for irritability.

Gabapentin IS the generic. Neurontin is the trade name.

There are a few in the same class of drugs (aka they work the exact same way). The OTC available ones are Alevert (my company makes it-wyeth) and Claratin. Those two are pretty much the same thing, so get the cheaper one-lol. Try either and give it a week to actually work- as you know with the class of drugs, as Zyrtec, it takes a few days to stop the allergy and have no carryover from what was in you once you started taking it. If you ever get in a bad allergy situation and need help fast- OTC kids liquid benadryl is my miracle med, it stops allergies fast and furious (but it makes you sleepy). And yes, the kids stuff even if you are an adult, you can take just a little to have a quick fix and not have to worry about being sleepy for 4-6 hrs- I use it for food alleries.

Sorry, there aren't any OTC supplements/meds for gabapentin. You'll need to call your doc/pharmacy.
