Use rays? Like... put your light source in an enclosed box and then switch it on after cutting a thin line at the side of the box. This will create a thin ray when light comes out, because light travels in a straight line.

Although you don't tjink a laser will do It is the only light source that I know of that does not expand with distance away from it's source.
