is it because I'm in grd 9 and they just need something to talk about? I think it's dumb, but it affects whether my friends will go out with a person...

Because up until the moment you graduate high school, image seems to be everything. Once that pipedream is over and real life takes over, nothing like that ever matters. Do what you like now, because in 4 years, no one is gonna care what you do, and if you are still together, then it should be a great 4 years.

Don't act like it bothers you a bit if they talk about it. Be proud of your relationship with the guy! Hey, when I was in high school I started dating a guy that was one year younger. And guess what? I went and picked HIM up for dates. Yep. Took him to the drive-in movie in my cool Mustang. I knew as soon as I started dating him that he was a keeper. People soon realized that we made the perfect couple because of the way we treated each other. We've been married 25 years now.
So don't worry, your friends will eventually accept the idea.

High schoolers LOVE to gossip and will find any and everything to gossip about. Trust me, after high school none of that matters. Serious relationships will stand the fire and obstacles thrown at it. Someone will always find something wrong with your relationships. Just realize that and understand that it is not what other people think or say, but what the two of you feel.

i was a junior and my bf was a sophmore so i know what youre going through, my friends gave me a hard time about it, but once our realtionship became developed my friends accepted it,a nd supported me and what i wanted
its a little for you if its like highschool compared to middleschool, but once he gets in the same setting things should smooth out a little bit
and yeah, highschool is just a lot of talk,a nd gossip and its what we do..but remember
true friends, wouldnt judge you for who you date, or woudlnt deny haning out with you because of it. so just keep that in mind, and i hope everything works out for you

they shouldn't, age shouldn't matter, especially one year......don't listen to those people, they are probably just jealous
