Fraternal twins are caused by the mother releasing 2 eggs during ovulation, which are then fertilized. So, women are 'responsible' for whether or not there are twins. If you release 2 eggs, greater possibility that you'll have twins. There might be a way that your gyno can check on this. With twins in your family, though a while ago, it is possible... Your hubby's genetics don't really matter in that regard though.

Identical twins are caused by a single fertilized egg that splits into 2 (identical) cells that develop into each baby. I'm not really sure that that can be controlled/or what it is ultimately caused by.

"In-Vitro" fertilization may be an option for you, but honestly, getting one baby to 'stick' is hard enough...but you could convince a Dr. to help you get twins. I think that may be your only possibility.

I am not a doc, but some countries have a high twin rate. They speculate it is because of a high ingestion of yams. Could try that. I am not sure about the science behind but I have heard it a few times this past year.

try taking clomid. It is a fertility drug that helps produce more than one egg each month. I had to take it when going through artificial insemination and in-vitro. Just be careful because you could end up with triplets or more.
