Cold calls are personal, what ever is said is due to your delivery.

Success in cold calls comes from two things.

1. Numbers. The more cold calls you make the greater chance of success.

2. Referals. If a call is unproductive, ask for a referal. Most of the time it will be rebuffed but when you do get one your chances of success with it are actually pretty good. And don't forget to ask for a referal FROM the referal.

The best salesman I ever knew was a sales manager at a Ford dealership in a GM town. He'd push us to cold call, which most of us hated with a passion. He pulled us all into the conference room one day and gave a demo. We pulled names blind from the phonebook and dialed for him. In an hour he made 15 calls. 5 of them came into the dealership, and 2 bought new cars. Over the next month he sold 3 more from referals from those cold calls.

Cold calling isn't for everyone (damn sure wasn't for me) but if you have the knack for it you can make a TON of money. OK, there is a third thing.

3. Be excited.

it's just like telemarketing. Determine your farming area, ask the title company for a list of names with phone numbers or thru the Criss Cross directory by street, check those phone numbers against the "do not call list". Make your list so that you can call them one after another and between 10 to 11:30 and 2:30 to 4:00. and on Tuesday thru Thursday.

Identify yourself and your company, tell them the reason for your call, ask if they have any plans to sell or buy in the near future and if they have any relatives or neighbors who they might refer to you. If they have plans to sell or buy, ask them "is ____ at 7PM a good time for me to stop by and discuss this (with you and your husband/wife)"?
