I am a certified teacher (elementary trained) and have 2 small children of my own. We can not find qualilty daycare for them so I can go back to work. My husband and I have thought about starting up my own preschool (not a daycare). I was wondering if anyone has done this and had some good advice to share about how you got started and where to look for information. Everything out there seems to be fore daycare and not preschool start up. Thanks in advance....

I agree that there is a LOT that goes into this. If you are in the U.S. you can download your licensing requirements (preschools have to be licensed as child care centers even if they offer only preschool). That will definately get you started. You may also wish to find out if there really is a need in your area. If possible, it might be a good experience for you to open a family or group home childcare/preschool to get a start on a good reputation started and decide if this is REALLY what you want to do. You will need to find a great tax preparer that can prove they have done child care taxes before. In our state, directors must have an administrative course under their belt. I recently took part 1 and 2 of the course and found that it covers much of what you need to know. Of course, the class being only as good as the teacher. :-) The teacher we had owned and operated a preschool/child care for MANY years before taking the teaching position. Good luck.

I visited “Preschool for Child Rights” and I read many article about starting up a play school / day care on “Preschool for Child Rights” , suggest everybody to read articles on “Preschool for Child Rights”.

You might ask them for help, since American and Canadian rules are quite different!
Good Luck!

Great idea - but you should check local licensing regulations, if any.

Package your business accordingly.

If you would like another perspective, send me an email - I'll be glad to share the link.

I really don't mean to be rude, but you are a certified teacher and you began a sentence with " I's " ???
