Unless you mean "a number less six" as in X-6.... then, 3(x-6)=18.

3(6-n)= 18

It is confusing. For me there are two answers. Other one is

6-3n=18

add 6 to both sides gives 3n=24
divide both sides by 3
gives you n=8
