Thank you. Like it has never gotten a little cold or sleeted? Good grief. I am so over it. All the hype that something was going to happen for 3 days, and that it would be bad last night. They closed schools for no reason, and should have waited for tomorrow.

It is El Nino, a weather pattern that comes every 7-10 years, it affects California mostly with more rainfal than usual, but will affect other areas as well including texas with colder weather than usual. People are not used to this and freak out, that is it, very simple. Houston is not used this kind of weather and are preparing accordingly, I am sure...they probably don't have the resources such as snowplows and such to get the roads in good condition and drivers in the area are not as experienced as in other parts of the country that get regualr snowfall. Take advantage of the school closures, have a snow day.

People are "freaking out" because we Texans are not used to this kind of weather. Other parts of the country don't cancel classes or close businesses because they are used to it and know how to prepare for winter storms like the one that is hitting Texas.

People in Houston drive like maniacs in the first place, and don't know how to slow down in the second place, not even for ice on the raised freeways. So they tell people to stay home so we won't kill each other on the freeway overpasses.
This is a highly unusual event because we usually don't experience winter here, so we aren't prepared to drive or walk on ice.

Experiencing different kinds of weather other than the ones you're used to has a tendency to cause people to panic in those areas. You are used to this kind of weather, but these people haven't really experienced often enough to not be concerned. So, it may not seem like such a big deal to you, but it is to them because they just aren't used to it.

1st off, Michael needs to shut tha *** up
but to answer your question... houston is a very hot place, so when we got the news of a possibe ice storm... ofcourse we freaked out.
most of us including myself have only seen snow on tv
the main focus down here is staying cool because average temperatures are from 75 - 95
so for the most part its very unusual and we just want to prepare for it because this has practically never happened before

We don't have the necessary precautionary equipment and the experience to handle the ice on the roads. I bet where you are from they have snow tires and chains and plenty of equipment (plows, etc.) to deal with this kind of weather.

first of all its "weather" sweetie. and second, i guess people are freaked out because it's never this cold, and there's never snow and ice. we're not used to driving in this kind of weather therefore it's dangerous.
