i've lived in dallas all my life. it's a great place to live. everything is up-to-date and they have a big job market. however, if you are relocating, i suggest you live in the outskirts of the city. some places are red oak, glenn heights, grand prairie, midlothian, irving (coppell). to name few. back in the day, dallas was the place to go for shopping, restaurants, etc. that's why dallas was the "it" place. however, now everything has expanded out into the locations i listed. the school districts are also a bit better in the outskirts. dallas isd has somewhat grown out of having great teachers and schools. i suggest investigating the school districts for openings and live around the school you choose.

the only negative thing i have to say is, the temperature is ALWAYS changing. and the summers are extremely HOT! like weeks or 100+ weather. (and that's not a lie) but within time you adjust.

Live in the burbs...much nicer than Big D...it may cost a little more, but when you consider you'll get paid more it all evens out. You can get to Dallas easier, but working there is hard...they don't pay the good money like the suburbs.
If you live south of the Metroplex (DFW area) then your costs will be less than if you lived north of the Metroplex.

Stay away from any city that'll have you driving on either 635 or I 75. Both interstates are a nightmare, just about any time of day.

I lived there when I was a kid (8). I liked it a lot- but there were a lot of crickets. They creeped me out.

Other than that, my opinion is a couple of decades out of date.

I have a friend who teaches in Houston and she has nothing but good to say about the district, the town, the people- everything.

And you know they say the stars at night are big and bright (clap clap clap clap) deep in the heart of texas!

Consider Austin, Texas. It was listed as one of the best American cities to live by Money Magazine. It's a University city (University of Texas)
