I meant no harm with my statement i.e. the 'strange' element.It's strange in my circumstance,that's all.And yes,I do tend to be in my own head most of the time.Can anybody share their experiences with me,for the sake of sharing,that's all.Thanks :-)

To boil it down really simply:

The mechanics are different, the emotions are the same.

It does not feel like making love to yourself, if you do it right. It doesn't magnify you. It unifies you with the other person.

Then again, I have only ever had sex with one woman and one man, lifetime. (Came close with two teenage boys as well.) Individuals make experiences different, not just gender.

This is a better question. For me I found the sex of the person to become irrelevant and in the midst of physical intimacy, the flow of one into another obliterated any genital differences. It was the same whether man or woman. The attention and focus is with the person, not on genitalia. The only difference is the ways in which we achieved that singleness. Currently, I have two significant others ... a woman and a man, the three of us are in a primary relationship with each other. It has been that way for 4 years w/o any problems.
