I posted a recent one on here about the general view of Australians by the British in U.K. Many said that they thought Australians were criminal type people. What is the general view of the people who went to 13 colonies in America and what about Canada and South Africa?

Just happened to flick over this question and saw that there was no answers to it, no wonder, what a symbiotic view you must have of the world.

1. The reality is that we haven't really taken any "view" about early colonists.

2. Most responses given on Yahoo! Answers are instant ones, with little thought or research. Therefore the replies that you receive are likely to be reflections of just how little people know about the history of the British Empire.

3. In general, this is what British people know:
a) Australia - penal colony
b) America - Mayflower / Pilgrim Fathers
c) South Africa - Boer and Zulu wars
d) Canada - errrrrr......

4. Now none of that can provide a realistic representation of the original British settlers to any of those colonies. So ... we return back to my point 1.
