This question is mainly directed to citizens of the United States of America. I myself fully support the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms.

I'm fully aware the Second Amendment protects all others. Including the First Amendment!

The fact that I am armed (in fact....heavily armed) guarantees that my rights remain intact. If ever there came a time when the fascists got their way and took over our government (and boy are they ever trying hard), they will find out that americans are dangerous in the extreme. Over half of americans are as heavily armed as myself. They might get a couple of us, but they will never get all of us. It simply is not possible for them to govern without our consent. That is a very good and necessary thing as what happened in nazi germany, russia, china, north korea, vietnam, cuba....the list goes on and on, bears grim testament to. Hundreds of millions of innocent people cruelly put to death. That will NEVER happen here. If it is ever attempted, the people who try will find themselves dangling at the end of a rope in short order. Americans aren't like europeans, south americans etc. We don't put up with that nonsense and we have real power to make sure of that.

The whole purpose of the 2nd amendment is for the citizens of the country to be as well armed as the government they have elected, mainly to keep the government in check. Our founding fathers that drafted our constitution and our bill of rights new this was an important part of keeping the government "for the people." This way if the government strayed to far, we the people, could put in place a new system that better serves our needs. The National Guard is not a millitia as in the Bill of Rights sense. The National Guard units are extensions of the military run by the Federal Government. Militias are supposed to be made up of the citizens, run by the citizens, and protecting the citizens.

I respect and practice it to the best of my abilities. The Second Amendment is very controversial because of the part about militias. What people don't realize (or want to realize) is that the militia the founding fathers were talking about, is a an armed nation of citizens being able to prevent tyranny from occuring in America.

EDIT: Well said Michael N.

Obama said that people do have a right to own guns, yes, but the government has an even greater power that allows them to remove those guns from people, and he thinks they should remove guns from criminals and people without permits. Wouldn't it be nice if someone came storming into your house unarmed, and robbing you, rather than coming in fully armed, robbing, and possibly killing you? For the lawsuit, he only threatened to file them against those networks. he never followed through. so technically he hasn't done anything wrong and hasn't broken the first amendment.

I support the concept that a person should be free to own and carry a gun. I will draw a line in terms of what I think I'll "let" people use the gun for. I don't support the concept that a person has a right to use their gun to rebel against our democratically-elected government. Our government is NOT a tyranny. Power is shared among the many and there is still a remnant of "checks and balances" and there is still federalism so there are still many limitations on the power of our government. So I do not call our government tyrannical. I do not support the concept that if you have a gun, you are ultimately keeping it because you intend to, someday, shoot at our government officials.

How do you respect an amendment? I can understand a question about do you believe it refers to private guns or I can understand a question about whether you think it should be changed, but respect it?
If I didn't respect it how could you tell? I wouldn't own a gun? Or I would attack gun owners with a knife?
I will say this I believe that the second amendment to the constitution is part of the constitution. I think it means that USA citizens are entitled to own guns and I own several. Not big ones, not really fun ones, like assault weapons or sniper rifles or GREAT BIG hand guns, but just normal give me confidence when I hear noises at night guns. Shoot at the groundhog who is digging holes around my house guns.

Yes - I totally believe in the right to bear arms. Unfortunately, that is why the crime rate is darn high - because people aren't allowed to have a gun for protection. It seems the criminals have the guns these days and they're not using them for 'protection', but for robbery, rape and murder. The criminals use it to bring their victims into subjection to them, even if they have no intent to kill, they're still using it as a weapon to force their victim into doing something against his/her will. If you're life is threatened, you should have the right to shoot at the perpetrator, even if you just incapacitate him/her by shooting them in the leg or something.
If there were more US citizens bearing arms today and all states allowed it, then I think the crime rate would go way down because those who have intentions of doing harm to others will know that there's a chance that they'll get killed trying to commit their crime, so they won't take the chance.
