I know, nobody wants to admit to shopping at good ol' Sam Walton's Wally-World, but....
They have really good prices on Linksys wireless routers. They also sell the Vonage version if you want to do VoiP for your phone (cheap and good service). The only problem is, if you have questions about installation, you probably will draw a blank stare from most Walmart employees.
It's really pretty easy to set up a wireless network as long as all the "parts" are Linksys. You can do the security setups using a phrase. If you mix other brands, you find yourself trying to enter some rather long hexadecimal keys (twice).
If you are really novice, you might want to hit a computer store. Places like CompUSA don't always have knowledgeable employees on the floor, but you can ask questions at the tech repair desk and even set up reasonably priced home installation.

You can even get them on ebay, but if you're not familiar with exactly what you want you should go to a computer or electronics store and talk with an expert. Walmart might have the best price, but I doubt anyone there knows much about how they work.
