It happens to many people. It's becaue the light or lack of light glaring off the computer screen makes the eyes strain after a while. Especially if you don't blink enough. It happens to people who play instruments, read a lot, drive for long time periods or try walking around in the dark too much among other causes. Anything that strains your eyes and makes the pupil widen to see more will make them hurt and possibly get dry after too much time. Eye drops help if you have to be on the computer for long time spans.

Sometimes they get dry and feel like they are burning a little. That means that I've been staring at the screen to long without a break. I have to remind myself that the "experts" recommend taking a 5(?) minute break every now and then to focus on other objects in the room to give your eyes a rest.
It is also suggested that you make your computer "ergonomically sound." This means having your monitor at a level that is below your eyes (this assures that a portion of your eyelid covers your eyes and keeps them from getting too dry).
Hope this helps! :)

Eye strain can be caused by working on the PC. My eye Dr suggests looking away at something that has primary colors every few minutes.
For the past 10 years my job has required me to constantly be on the PC. This has made my vision worse.

My eyes hurt only when I have to drive a long distance at night. but they begin hurting too if I 'm on the computer a lot. I usually shut down if they begin hurting while I am on the computer but when driving I dont usually have time to shut down before reaching my destination.

Yes...I am at the screen a lot during the day (job and home). I switched to a flat LCD screen at work and it has made a big improvement as far as less eye strain from the screen glare. I need to do the same for home.

Yes, on one day, but they recover the following day.
The problem is you have to keep some distance, and adjust the lighting in your computer room as well - don't work with no other lighting
