I just love the sterling silver baby and toddler silverware that I received for my last baby shower. It was a beautiful set that had a small fork and small spoon and then a little bigger toddler spoon and fork. They were also engraved with the baby's initials. This was a great gift that was both useful and will be kept and passed on for many generations.
I still have the silverware that my mother was given when I was a baby. You can buy these at most stores who carry infant items and large department stores who carry both baby items and dishes, etc. Or nice jewelry stores have them and you can get them engraved at the time of purchase.
This gift would be way under $100.00, so you grandmother could also consider giving something with the silverware, such as a silver baby cup with engraved initials, etc.
Or, how about a very nice frame which you could then take a picture of you, the baby, and your grandmother to put in the frame,or just the baby and your grandmother. I am talking about a nice sterling silver frame or other antique frame that would be kept forever.
Good luck with the new little one. I hope you havea great baby shower.

A Diaper Cake.....custom diaper cake. Grandma can have it designed how she wants it....put her spin on it, if you will. Fill it up with all the items she thinks your baby will need. It could be the centerpiece at the shower, too....which is special.
Other ideas.....three matching bracelets one for her, one for you, one for the baby. (Or two....one for you and one for the baby, this would be really nice if the baby is a girl. Have the bracelet made in a way that makes it expandable beyond the infant years!!)
She could commission someone to make a special quilt with pictures of the family.....that quilt could be used on the child's twin bed later on. I got a twin quilt made by a family member when I was FIVE and I adored it all the way to the day it fell apart in the college dorm's washing machine!!
IF it's a girl....a really nice piece of jewelry she could wear on her wedding day. Grandma could start a strand of pearl's for less than $100 and add to it every holiday. Once again, I had family members do this for me and I wore those pearls on my wedding day!!
Good luck!!!

I LOVE the other woman's idea about letting your grandmother pick the baby's middle name, its so special and something that both you and your child will carry with you forever!
If you are looking for a nice gift that is unique and special, I make diaper cakes for baby showers. They are beautiful and useful! The ones I create have hidden gifts inside of the cake, so you won't even know whats in it until you "open" it.

What about an heirloom baby blanket?
I made my son a baby blanket by hand (only took me a couple of days) with his name and year born on it.
My older son had a bought blanket given to him when he was a baby, but he still says "hey! that's my baby blanket".
It's one of the few things that some grown ups keep to remind them they were innocent at one time in their lives- and that no matter how old they get, or what is said- that their Mother loved them.
I still have mine tucked away.

A camera...and one day that is just Grandma and the baby...take lots and lots of pictures of just her and the baby...maybe have one blown up...make a scrapbook...every time they get together, take pictures...by the time the baby is old enough to ask, you'll have lots of pictures to show and tell about...then if you wait, when the baby is old enough, you can have HER help make a scrapbook, with lots of fond memories...

A really nice baby book with all the scrap booking supplies with a baby theme. You and then your child will keep it forever. They have some nice stuff out there and it gets kind of expensive.
