how do u get a job working on movie/tv sets?

i have no idea where to start, even being like an extra sounds like fun too how can i get into stuff like this.

I've been an extra in many movies, and the trick is as most people say connections. However for the less connected you can simply sign up with an agency they will inform you when their are open calls and send you out to auditions.

Also check local papers for open casting calls and calls for extras. Many times you will just sit in a banquet hall for hours listening to people babel before they do a brief interview (not always) and shuffle you through a screen test (usually a few seconds).

If you are looking for a more normal job and not an acting type job you can start by simply trying to get hired by one of the unions or studios. Be persistant and bug them for months (call once a week and ask about job openings as a runner or something).

It is easier if you have a degree or some skills then you simple apply in that field (camera operator etc.)

I would also like to work on movie sets or better yet act! It's just that opportunity for those jobs are not readily available like in the US.

My advice is to go to the popular places when these kind of jobs are prominent! Wear a pleasant face and don't give up hope, just keep trying, and when you finally get a job, it'll be worth it, don't give up!!!

Find an extra agency. Most big cities have them. Check with your Better Business Buerue for a listing. Watch out for folks that want a fee. Sometimes it's a legit processing fee sometimes it's a scam.

Look in the ads, probably in Los Angeles would be your best bet. Thats why so many rookies move out there to get started. They will have casting calls. There have even been times when commercials are casting and they will tour to different cities. (like Oscar Myer weiners LOL~!) Just keep posted on everythig. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cenex Casting in Burbank CA is the main extra casting agency for non union extras.

Central Casting next door to them in Burbank is the main extra casting agency for Union extras.

Non union is about $40-45 a day.
Union is about $100 a day.

If you have actor friends that do Extra work ask what the procedure is for getting work.

If you don't have actor friends and live in NYC or L.A. take one or two seminars at The Actor'sConnection. (I don't know the cost).
You can network with actors, acting coaches, casting directors, and talent agents.

If the Assistant Casting Director likes you may get steady work.

If you live in L.A. or NYC, mail your photo-postcard or headshot, to the "Assistant Casting Director" of the Soap Operas in NYC and LA.

Indicate on the post card that you are "Available for Extra Work."
(Must be AFTRA for soap work)

If you are in Mumbai, India then just hang around near studios, etc. They are always on the lookout for extras. That should give you a break.
Better still if you are a foreigner...these days they are in a lot demand.

you should first give away your most precious value, then you will not work for self-interest, for succeed but work and the result is the problem.
the result is automatic because no work is resultless. You sould not head toward results, you should have just vague idea of where to go, and joy to go fast.
Don't care about preservation of value, share yourself so that you expand beyond that "body boundary"
