Depends on the city you are looking in. A favorite of mine is the TKTS booth in New York City which offers Broadway tickets to all the 'Hot' and in demand shows and savings of 50% or more. I have always gotten great tickets from TKTS and I have used them, I think, 9 times when traveling in NYC...always getting to see the shows I wanted all while saving a TON of money.

TDF operates two TKTS Discount Booths in New York City

1. The Times Square Booth sells day-of-performance tickets only.
2. The South Street Seaport Booth sells tickets to evening performances on the day of the performance, and matinee tickets the day before.

Both locations sell tickets at 50%, 35%, and 25% off full-price (plus a $3.00 per ticket service charge, which helps support other TDF services and programs). Availability and ticket inventory change throughout the day and at the discretion of individual productions.

I have have only used this service in NYC so I can't comment about the customer service beyond NYC, but if it operates anything like the TKTS in the city, I would guess you would get the same stellar service since it is operated by the same company

If you live in the UK try theatremonkey.com, they give you seating plans, the best seats to buy and avoid. They also sell tickets, but tell you to contact the box office of the theatre you are visiting first as they are usually cheapest.
Another good place to buy in the UK is seetickets.com
