(2/5) + (4/10x+5) = (7/2+1)
2/5 + 4/10x + 25/5 = 7/2 + 2/2
27/5 + 4/10x = 9/2
4/10x = 9/2 - 27/5
4/10x = 45/10 - 54/10
4/10x = -9/10
4x = -9
x = -9/4

Well one problem is that it's not clear whether in the second term you mean (4/((10x) + 5) or (4/10x) + 5 or (4/10) x + 5.
Depending on the correct interpretation of that term, your answer could be several different possibilities.
Let's assume you mean (4/10)x + 5....
Then the first thing I'd do is multiply everything by the common denominaotr, which is 10, to clear the fractions and make the work easier. Easier work means less chance of making mistakes. This would give...
4 + 4x + 50 = 35 + 10 Combining terms
4x + 54 = 45 subtract 54 from each side
4x = -9
x = -9/4
I wouldn't swear to this as like I said, your question is ambiguous. Other people may read it differently and give you differnet answers. Read it carefully, minding order of operations and what appears above or below the fraction lines, plug the solution you get and the solution in the back of the book into the question, and this should give you a clue as to the correct answer.

(2/5) + (4/10x+5) = (7/2+1)
LCF(5, 10, 2) = 10
4 + 4x + 50 = 35 + 10
4x = 45-50-4
4x = 45-54
4x = -9
x = -9/4
Solution: {x elements of R | x = -9/4}
