When they say "Does not prevent STD's or AIDS."

If you are under the impression that birth control prevents disease, should you even be having sex?

Is this a symptom of how America is still woefully behind when it comes to the education in sexual and reproductive matters.

Damn religious right.

They're just covering their @$$es, legally speaking. And yes, I do think that ignorance-only sex education may be part of the reason why they need to do so.

It could be worse, though. Look at this website!

Yes. We can thank our wonderful government support of abstinence-only education funding for helping this sad trend along. It's amazing the ignorance that still exists around such a natural topic. People having sex don't even know how to take care of themselves. We need a comprehensive sexuality education program to teach young people (and adults), about their bodies and sexuality & health across the lifespan. *sigh* Wishful thinking though...

But the blurb about "does not prevent STDs/HIV" will probably remain even if we had excellent education because it's more of a legal issue. Someone, somewhere would sue saying that they didn't know they weren't protected! lol. Afterall...this is America. God bless it and the idiots in it. hehe

Well, at least they are telling people, so that the uneducated know. They aren't really doing it because they think people aren't aware, they are doing it so that no one can come back and say, "Well, they didn't tell me.. blah blah blah." Unfortunately, in this country, people like to blame their own ignorance on other people. Therefore, society puts a strain on marketing companies, saying they have an obligation to warn people.
