You don't have to let the crush go, even as you become friends. I mean, afterall, he is still tall, dark, and handsome.
Talk with him, get to know him, and let him get to know you. Sometimes it's nice just to have a guy friend, who can help you sort through boyfriends, and life in general. It gives each of you a chance to see the world from a different perspective. And if it should happen that you become more than just friends, it will be because the two of you have grown into it together.
I know it sounds like a movie plot, but it does happen in real life too.

Just go talk to him. Unless he knows you as 'that chick thats stalking me' the guy will love it. Guys love the attention. You'll tell him your not interested, but he won't hear that he'll hear 'come closer'. Just go have a chat, act natural and then leave. You shouldn't be scared to talk to him he's just a person, you never know he may like you back. Ask him to hang out sometime

You didn't tell him that you had a crush on him so technically you don't need to tell him anything. Just remain friends with him. Unless you did tell him. If that were the case then if he asks you if you want to be more than friends then tell him that you just wanna be friends. I am more than positive he will not get upset.

well the best thing you can do is tell him the truth because as hard as it might be to get the words out say im sorry it was just a crush we are better friends say how you feel dont drag it out cuz then things get messy if he cant accept that you just want to be friends move on it becomes his problem because you said what you had to say.
