Marketing covers a variety of topics. Many people narrow it down to the 4P's. To oversimplify here's a quick explanation:

Product - The thing you are selling.
Can you improve it . Is it what the customer wants?

Price - This is what you charge for your product/service.
Is it too high, tool low. Do you have special deals/contracts etc. How do you stack-up against the competition.

Place - This has do do with the distribution of your product/service.
Can you improve on the way you do this. Are you too slow in responding?

Promotion - This is how you tell the public about your product/service, and I think this is what you were looking for when you asked for Marketing Tips.

Here's a list of some of the things you can do:

Radio advertising
TV advertising
Newspaper advertising
Magazine advertising
Professional business periodicals
Internet advertising
Direct Mail advertising
Special event participation
Sponsorships
Point of sale displays
Billboards
Slogans
Logos
Novelties
Ads on buses
Ads on your truck
Church bulletin advertising

I get flyer's in the mail all the time advertising your type of service and I throw them out. I also hang up on telephone solicitors. But sometimes when I see a neighbour having work done, and I see the truck etc. I will go over and ask the worker about my house. My husband is a carpenter and he has had many neighbours ask him to do something for them when they see him working. You need to have a sign posted on the front lawn when you are inside. Also why don't you offer to clean a house for free in exchange for leaving your sign on their lawn for a week. Also talk to companies that install heating systems. Ask if you can stick your business card on the side of the furnace. Put a small ad in the local paper about dust, allergies, reduced heating costs, etc listing the advantages of getting the ducts cleaned. You could also talk to new house builders, and ask for a contract to clean all the new homes. I build houses, and you wouldn't believe the junk that goes down the air ducts during construction. AND I KNOW it is never cleaned when we are finished. Even new homes need the ducts cleaned. Then when you do get a job, leave a note on the furnace stating the date and when it should be done again. Keep the customer on file, and call them when it's time to clean them again.

Like I told someone earlier, to get good advertising you really need to pay for it-nothings for free! I joined this search engine submission company called berankednumber1.net it,s $119 per month and they will list your company #1 on many top search engines.I should actually sign up as an affiliate for them cause i'm sending them a lot of customers (lol) but I signed up my website 3 days ago and already am listed on page 1 of google and some others.I recommend them though, they are really good.
