I am very sad. I am a 22 year old white female. I have always gone to the Martin Luther King Jr Parade, and participated in other events which were sorrounded by the civil rights movement. The sad thing is that when I go to the parades, I never see other whites there. I have wondered why. Many of the whites want to take advantage of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday by not going to work, or school, but not once do they think to participate in the MLK activities.

Fellow whites, why do you do this? Do you think that MLK day is not important? Don't you realize that not only did MLK bring about changes for this country, but helped us all realize that we can all live together equally. However I see many whites at other parades, and activities. But it's like they believe that MLK day is only for blacks. However many people benefited from this, including blacks and whites. What do you think?

I was there at our MLK march in our town of Leesburg Va. I've been going to the march for 15 years and try to bring more people to the event each year- both black and white.

We've grown from 10-15 marchers to over 300 this year. It's a matter of one on one talking to others that makes people turn out.

I don't celebrate the birthdates of anybody, including myself. Never the less, I do think that MLK was a great man. He tore this country apart and brought it together. Something it sorely needed. We could use another man like him today, black or white.

when i feel safe walking through the Bronx after dark, then i will start to celebrate MLK day. who am i kidding, i hate crowds, i do not like most people that i meet. and i can not stand parades. they just make it harder for me to travel through the city that i live in. i do not celebrate this day for the same reason that i do not celebrate any other "free day off" because it has no meaning to me. not saying thet MLK was not an importent civil rights figure, or that civil rights are not importent. just that this paticular day had no signifigance for me other than the fact that i have to leave for work an hour early to circumvent the parade routes.

I don't relate.
I dont work so I dont have the day off.
I also dont participate in other parades or activites.
But most simply I dont relate, I'm an old white woman. I'm not predjudice, I'm just not interested.
