no i dont think he's worth it. hes cute and a great a player and all, but no way in hell. this society is truly screwed up when we can pay athletes 2x's - 3x's as much as we pay city officials, president, people in Capitol Hill or even teachers. can they get some kind of increase??? completely ridiculous!!!

Well he isn't getting paid entirely by the LA Galaxy or the MLS. I believe he is making $50 million from playing soccer. The bulk of his deal is coming from Adidas and other sponsor and promotional deals.
People must remember that David Beckham is not coming to America to just play soccer. He is coming sell a sport. The purchase of Beckham does not just affect LA Galaxy, but affects the entire sport in this country. MLS needs Beckham more than the Galaxy do.
Sells are surging and interest (like this question) is buzzing. For all I know, there is already some success in his purchase. If the US can continue watching soccer is another ordeal. Basically time will tell if he's worth the rest of his multi-million deal.

His salary is "only" 10 million per year. The Galaxy have given him majority of profit from his marketing rights and a profit sharing in the club which conceiveably will take him to the 50 million a year mark.
He may not be a very good player but, by MSL standards he will be above average. Realisticly at US club level he should have 4 or 5 good years left. World Cup level, 2 years ,at most!
Do I think he's worth it? For the Galaxy alone , no. But, for the MSL he is a name that will draw at whatever city he plays in. So then in that area he is worth it.

a quarter of a billion. Los angeles has the best football team in the US, and don't need him to win. No one watches football(soccer) in LA. He will be another Wayne Gretzky. Viewership of Soccer will go up, but it will bankrupt the team, or even the entire sport, since its all own by one person pretty much.
The only difference is that galaxy will win some championship, although they don't need Backham to do that.

its not all about his talent
its more about the revenue he brings to the franchise. i.e. ticket sales and advertising
