I flashed my motherboard to the updated version fix a problem but it made it worse and now it dosent detect slots A (0,1) of my motherboard. The old bios i written over is nowhere to be found because gateway dosent keep a copy of the old bios (those bastards), anywho, would a full system restore fix this cause im not sure simply because the when i disconnect the harddrive, the motherboard still has the bad bios(so im not sure if the bios would be affected by the restore) . Or rather does anyone know where if anywhere on my computer a copy of my bios could be in.
thanx

A "full system restore" is only done at the software level, with the operating system (XP). The motherboard will be unaffected by the system restore.

Sorry, the PC itself does not have the bios. The bios is stored on the motherboard in a special memory cache. You're going to need to find a bios somewhere, online. Google the name of your motherboard and try to find a bios.

I'm going to assume that by full system restore you mean reinstalling the operating systems and the applications the way they were when the computer left the factory. This only restore the data on the hard drive, thus, putting the operating system and the applications the way they were when it was manufactured. The BIOS data resides on the motherboard and system restore applications don't take care of of the flash memory where it resides. You might want to find the jumper to reset the BIOS, and perform a reset there or Remove the motherboard battery for at least 24 hrs in order to erase any semi-volatile memory. You might also go to the motherboard's manufacturer web site and download an old BIOS version if it is available.

BIOS is started before the hard drive so if the problem exists in BIOS then a restore point will not solve your problem.

Can't tell you if we can find a copy of your old BIOS as you didn't give us the motherboard info or the version your using now so we could look for an earlier one.

Best of luck.

no i do not think a system restore will do it but you can reset the bios. this has to be physicaly done.
open it up find cmos battery
http://www.computerhope.com/help/cmos.gif
typically going to be your cell type battery
ok so turn it off
remove the power cord/turn off psu
remove battery
turn back on but hold button for 30 sec
turn off
put battery back in
turn on
this should reset the bios.
you may need to instaul the bios again, i am not sure so make shure you have the cd that came with your computer/motherboard
if it dosen't work i don't know what to do
good luck

Once XP is installed it will work on the target system but not on any other system. All you'll get is a blue-screen if you try to move the drive. Yes, there might be a recovery partition on the HP system so I would ask HP on how to find it.

Try reflashing the bios again (same version-make sure it IS for your model!!) then make sure you use "set default settings" in the bios. Restart, go into the bios again and have it detect hardrives, save reboot.

Nope, system restore has nothing to do with hardware. Your MB is hosed unless you can get it reflashed.
