It depends on which shot you are talking about.
When it comes to slap shots - Sheldon Souray has a really nice hard accurate shot, Dion Phaneuf has an amazingly hard shot but i find he has trouble hitting the net all the time.
wrist shot - Joe sakic has the quickest release. His feet are moving and the goaltender has very little time to anticipate the shot. Goalies look for clues - when a skater stops moving his feet he either has to shoot or pass. But joe sakic shoots while he is still skating so the goalie doesn't have any clues as to when he will shoot.
Ray Bourque had a very accurate shot, Alexander Ovechkin has a good one, as does a whole host of others but my pick is sakic for the quickest release.
Martin Brodeur has on eof the best goalie shots. He's long since retired but Ron Hextall also had an amazing shot for a goalie...

I would say that Brian Rolston from the Minnesota Wild has the best shot in the league. He's especially dangerous during a shootout or on a break away. If you've never seen his skills in action there are numerous clips of him on youtube. The fact that he can just shoot a rocket and beat the best of the best is amazing.

Joe Sakic. But watch Alexander Semin cause his shot is almost as good. They both have that quick wrist shot that they release real quick and put it up under the bar or in a top corner.

when Jagr is on his game hes the best no questions asked. two players you can really look at are the Montreal Canadiens Sheldon Souray (pure accuracy)and Calgary Flames Kristian Huselius scores a goal every 4 shots and he only has 79 shots and 19 goals just if he would shoot more he would have more goals.

The question was not 'who has the hardest shot', its who has the best shot. A lot of people would say Ovechkin, but look at the number of shots he has taken this year...its outrageous. I would have to say Joe Sakic.

Sheldon Souray, the modern day Al MacInnis! Don't even dare block his slapshot less you get hurt. Just watch him on the All Star Game where he'll showcase his talent.
