Yes, you need to get an external filter. Cleaning the gravel every day isn't enough and won't even be necessary if you have the external filter. Aquariums of that size tend to need filtering of three different types: Mechanical, Biological, and Chemical.

The Mechanical and Chemical types can be taken care of pretty easily by purchasing a filter system from a pet store. You need a kind that has charcoal filtering involved, as this is the best way to help remove chemicals and ions that can be harmful to the fish. They should be able to help you buy the right kind for your size tank.

The biological kind of fltering is already occuring because you have gravel at the bottom and small organisms will adhere to the surfaces of those rocks and help to metabolize waste from your fish.

It IS important to get a filter, though because without it the pH and other chemical levels cen get too high or low and this will quickly be toxic to your fish.

Your aquarium has never cycled, and it never will if you are changing the water everyday. You need to go and spend a few bucks and buy a filter, or your fish will die. The cloudiness is caused from ammonia in the water, you need a filter to get rid of that and to build bacteria to eliminate the ammonia.

See the answer I just posted to kentuckye just a few questions ago. Also if you want to breed Rosy Reds you will need a larger tank. PeeTee
