YES. The judges and producers are being very mean. It's obvious that some of these contestants are "special." These judges laugh at and pick on them -- it seems so cruel to pick on people like that.

I watch American Idol specifically to laugh at the auditions - they pick them to show again because they ARE the most outrageous, ridiculous, and yes, mean. They have to be cold - if every person with a sob story and no talent that came through the doors got through to Hollywood, 17,000 would be there, not just 17.

They have an initial screening process and I think they let a lot of bad singers through to get humiliated and as far as the comments go, sometimes the bad singers need to hear it out loud that maybe they're just not cut out for singing. The judges could have said it a little nicer at times though.

The season is very young, but after one night honestly I didn't think they were mean at all.

This wouldn't even be an issue if so many people didn't show up who are obviously hoping to be the next William Hung.

No, the judges were being honest, even if it's a bit brutal. What's really mean are these parent's who encourage these kids into thinking they can sing and set them up for dissapointment. If I knew my child honestly couldn't carry a tune in a bucket...I would encourage him to find another hobby or interest.

I feel sorry for the judges. Those kids need a reality check. I would think it would be dangerous to be one of those judges, beings some of those kids are obviously not playing with a full deck. Think about it.

Shows like that uses the people to make ratings. Unfortunately, people like it when tv hosts are mean... You also should remember that everybody knows that you could be the star of some commercial saying "... and the poor hopeless wannabes."

the people that try out need to get a reality check and look in the wear. who comes tothe auditions and thinks that growling in their song will be amazing, and who wears a custome. Their families and friends need to be honest with them. Not only with there singing but their looks.

Hmm..you do have a good point.. Though you do gotta admit that some of those people suck. I think that the first lady whom auditioned has a chance if she takes signing lesson's she could be good. But that's my opinion,
