Yes and it not really a panel. It is a secret society. There are only 4 gay people on it at once and it is composed of 2 men and 2 women. If they need to vote and their is a tie they summon the ghost of Liberace who casts the winning vote!

People become icons by affecting others. MLK became an icon by standing up and gaining respect. That's how icons come to be. It's not about judges, but it happens in the court of popular opinion.

Gay icons are selected by committee at Fordham University, who are Jesuits. Who better to know who is worthy of icon status than priests? Especially Jesuit priests!

or are you from the the Andy Kaufman school of satire?

Oh and to answer your latest bit of baiting, a person becomes a gay icon by way of their popularity in the gay community. It also helps if the person has no perceived animosity towards gay people. Unlike, say, yourself.
