Mexico City is fine where it is...1,000 miles away from me.

It really does smell from the pollution. You can see it in the air in front of your face.

Mexico City is fabulous. Yes, the air is bad, but it's not going to hurt you on a visit. It's right up there with the great cities of the world. Don't obsess about crime. All large cities have crime, but it's safer than Washington D.C., sadly, and a lot bigger. And do see the video Rafael suggested. A few things you can't miss are the main square, with the Natinal Cathedral, vicereal palace and ruins of Tenochtitlan, Chapultepec Park, Bellas Artes, Polanco, and I'm forgetting tons. Do take the trip out to Teotihuacan, which is gorgeous.

Mexico DF is an powerful situation. Remember 30 million individuals using autos residing in a dry lake mattress. Yeah it is extremely polluted, dangerous. In truth while I was once there individuals could stroll round in blue mask, a few days there could be little visability within the sky and it was once sizzling as hell within the iciness. For all of Mexicos downers matters like teotiwachaun, oxchimilico, the Metro, and so on make the beautiy that's mexico

I have been living in Mexico City for about nine months... and it really is a great place to visit. There is so much to do that you don't have to wander into the bad parts of the city to have enough to fill your time. Almost anyplace that you will want to go is safe during the day. I wouldn't go to Plaza Garibaldi AT ALL. This area is the only place in Mexico City that I have not felt safe. Polanco seems safe at almost any hour. Zocalo is best left to visits during the day, in my opinion, and don't venture off the side streets in that area - just stay between the Zocala/Plaza de Tres Culturas and Bellas Artes. The taxi cab suggestion is correct - don't ever take a VW Beetle taxi. Always call for one. If you can't get one by phone (any restaurant, store will call one for you), go with the non VW-Beetle taxis. These are unionized and much safer. My security guys briefed me a few months ago, and told me that they don't have any reports of express kidnappings, theft, violence from the non-Beetle taxis. These are usually white with green or red striping, usually a Ford Ikon or a Nissan Tsuru model. IF YOU HAVE TO TAKE A VW taxi, of course, wait for one that is dropping off passengers. This is always my last resort manner in deciding which taxi to take.

Make sure you spend a day or two in Coyoacan, a beautiful colonial section of Mexico City. There are a handful of good museums there, including ones featuring works of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. The Trotsky home isn't bad either. The plaza in Coyoacan is nice, with several good cafes, restuarants, and pubs. Its probably one of the safest parts of the city.

what do you know about it?.
it is a very big city, and it includes very incertain zones like another big citys in the world.. but dont fear, this zones may be never knows in your trip.
mexico city have many places and interest things to do, if you want to visit the center of the city, "historic center", i recomend that you do it with a tourist guide, there are some very goods like one in a panoramic bus with route to the important places .

the more safety zone in the city it s the south side, there are locating the best and tourist places.

an advise , is about you never take a taxi in the streets its preferent, it tries to take them in places stipulated for it like hotels, airport or comercial centers..

im recomend visit the azteca stadium with a futball game, the bullfight ring (its season ), the pyramids of teotihuacan, coyoacan, six flags , etc

It´s just like any other big city in the world... you have to be carefull, i mean, with the obvious things... don´t walk alone at night in empty streets, don´t "show" all your money, etc.

I´ve been living at Mexico City my hole life, i have a normal busy life and i have never had a problem with crime or pollution.

It´s very beautifull, don´t miss Reforma Street, the Historic Center, Frida Khalo´s Blue House, Coyoacan, the Antropologic Museum, and of curse... Las Trajineras!!, my canadian friends came offten, and they love it.

you will see lots of people, but trust me, they will be so woried about getting late to job that they probablly won´t even notice you... just be cool and enjoy the biggest city in the world.

I went there about 3 years ago. It was sort of dirty but a lot of culutural things to see there. Make sure to stay in the public view and not go down any streets that do not look safe. I hear it can be dangerous. We stayed right in Mexico City and it was a fun trip.
