And how old does a child have to be before a parent can leave that child to be on his own overnight or for two nights?
Would you know a website where this is discussed?

It depends on how mature the teen is.
However, I would say about 17.

I would not hire anyone under 18 to babysit overnight, maybe even 21. And leaving a child home alone for a night or two, definately not until they were at least 18, maybe even 21. Though you can't really hire a babysitter for a 19 year old, I probably just wouldn't go anywhere that would require me to gone for any length of time.

My guess is about fifteen, but beyond age is the question of responsibility. Can you place confidence in this teen to the point that if something were to go wrong, he/she would know exactly how to handle it?
A child must be at least ten or eleven and it would be wise to ask a neighbor or friend to keep an eye out for him/her-
It would be even better if the child stay with a friend for the two days.

My friend had a neighbor who was a cop and told her I think fourteen but not positive but that was only for babysitting or staying home alone for a night, but it really should depend on the maturity of the "child" which is what they are atleast until they hit 17, in my opinion.

It is really up to the child's parents to decide what age they want their babysitter to be. I just went to goggle and typed in the words babysitting restrictions and laws. There was over 10 pages of babysitting information. Too many sites to list but I'm sure you can get some great information from those pages. Go there to goggle and give it a try. You might want to try dogpile.com too,as it is a great search site too . Good luck and happy hunting : )

id say about 16 years of age to be allowed to babysit overnight.
15-17 years of age to leave the child for two nights.
no younger than 15.
this is just my opinion.

I don't understand your question. Your initial question doesn't agree with your explanation.

The first time I stayed alone overnight was when I was 15. I could have done it earlier, though. It depends upon the individual.

Legally......18 in most states....until the child is of voting status-----considered a legal adult and responsible for his own actions.....overnight alone is a risky thing for you....you could stand as a contributing factor and liable for anything that should happen....fire.....death......

Its completley upto the parents. I was left alone on many occasions looking after my nephew over night since I was 13. I'm now 17 and closer to him then to any of other neices who I have never looked after by myself propley.

Personally, I wouldn't have let either of my kids do that until they were at least 18, even though they were probably trustworthy enough before then. That's a lot of liability and responsiblity to place on a teen.
