Athena appears to him in the woods in the form of a young boy, and gives him instructions on how to avoid the spell.

because his goddess comes to visit and tells him to put beeswax in his shipmates ears and to tie himself to a pole. i can't remeber the goddess's name but for some i think it's aphrodite.
