The world is divided lengthwise in eastern and western degrees of longitude. The 0 degree line runs thru Greenwich, England. Everything lying east of that line, most of Europe, Africa, Asia over half way around the globe (180 degree line) is the Eastern Hemisphere. North and South America lies west of that 0 degree line so they are in the Western Hemisphere. China, Vietnam etc, being the farthest land mass east of the 0 degree line is known as the "Far East." Mid way between the 0 degree line and the far East lie Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc. is the area known as the "Middle East."
