Secure easy setup is a Linksys feature that works if you have a Linksys network adapter and a Linksys router. I'm guessing that you don't have a Linksys network adapter, since most laptops come with builtin Wi-Fi.

You need to be a little more specific in your description of your router for people to advise you - Linksys makes a number of different ones.

I'll guess that you have a Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS, since these are the most popular Linksys routers.

If that's the case, you need to open a brower, and where the URL of the website is, type "http://192.168.1.1"

If you did this correctly, you should be prompted for a username and password. For the Linksys WRT54G/GS, the default username is blank, and the default password is "admin" - so leave the username field blank and type "admin" in the password field).

Once you enter these correctly, you should see a web page with the Linksys logo on it.

Click on the "Wireless" tab.

You should see a bunch of settings here. The first thing you should do is give your network a unique name. The default name is "Linksys" - you should change this to something unique to you (e.g., something with your name in it like "Fredsnet").

If you're connected wirelessly to this router, once you make this change, you'll have to reconnect to the router with the new name (i.e. whatever you set it to).

Now, get back to the Wireless tab, and select the "Wireless Security" sub-section. You'll see a drop-down list that allows you to select the security type.

Select "WPA Personal".

Some more fields will pop up when you do this. Leave all of them at the default setting, except for the "WPA shared key" field - put in a pass phrase (it can contain any text, including spaces and is case sensitive).

Once you hit "Save Settings" security will be applied.

Now you'll need to reconnect to the network again, if you're wirelessly connected.

This time, you will be prompted to enter the passphrase on your laptop.

Make sure that you enter it *exactly* as you did on the router.

Once you've done that, you should be secured.

In your router's instruction guide, it should give you a numerical address to access the router's menu. Something like... 192.168.2.1, yours will be different for a different brand. then look for a tab that says "Security". From there, you should be able to secure your your router. The easiest authentication type is "WPA-PSK" where you enter a password that you can remember as needed. To see who has been using your router, click on Client list, or something similar. I've never had a linksys so I don't know if yours will be the same. I hope this is helpful, as I'm only going by what I did with mine.

Good Luck!

In your favorite web browser, go to the following web address:

192.168.0.1

You will be asked for a username and password. Leave the username blank and type "admin" as the password.

The router configuration page will come up and you should see options on how to enable security.

Hope this helps!
