Yes. For me it happened while I was effacing ... let your doctor know.

Yes it is possible to lose your mucus plug if your cervix is closed but it also means u could go in to labor any time soon so don't worry about it just take long walks to help open your cervix.

I would say probably, but I am dilated 2 cm and have not lost my mucus plug. I don't agree with the answer that you loose your mucus plug before you dilate, because I didn't and I too am 40 weeks and 5 days.
They are planning to induce me tomorrow, but I am very hesitant to do so, due to the complications that can arise with the use of Cytotect. My husband and I are still debating and are trying to contact our midwife for more information. I have been using Evening Primrose Oil which my midwife recommended at my last appointment. It has seemed to work so far. Good Luck!

Yes -- sometimes it comes out in all at once, in a big gooey blob; other times it leaks out a little at a time. Usually it means your cervix is softening and "ripening," but not necessarily dilating.

Yes, it is. However, once the mucus plug is gone, labor quickly follows. OB's try to get the baby delivered prior to the 24 hour mark since the mucus plug is the only barrier between your baby and outside infection. If your mucus plug is gone then you need to call your OB right away.

Yes I lost my mucus plug at 7 months! With my first child, and dunno when I lost my mucus plug with my 2nd one! Just because you loose your mucus plug doesn't mean your cervix has to be opened! GOOD LUCK!! Hope this helped!

Yes, you lose the plug and then normally you start to dilate and efface.
