Who would be the smartest choice for the GOP in order to hold onto the White House after George W. Bush leaves office in January of 2009?

It's not that far away.

Rudy is the worst! how someone could think he has displayed toughness on terror, while being a mayor, i'll never know!
he hasn't even run a state, and people want to let him run a country??!!

Smartest choice for the republicans, is to slap McCain in there, remind him that some of his faith based initiatives have no place at the federal level, and let him run Lieberman as his VP.

Why? because it would show he is truely a maverick republican, which is what he is getting a name for. This kind of duo would make fringe-types' heads explode, while raking in the moderate votes, which is the majority of Americans.
They would win the votes of the global warming crowd, and the warmonger crowd.
afterall, Mccain has shown he is tough on terror and drugs, two of the biggest issues in our country right now.
AND he is a veteran. He was a POW for a long time, and has a child in the marine corp!
any conflicts he wants to send troops in for, no one can say he doesn't have loved ones to be concerned about, or doesn't know what it is like to be a soldier.
No one can say he didn't show up for duty....didn't earn a purple heart!

with this duo, both fringe sides of the political spectrum, lose most of their talking points. They'll actually have to come up with new ones!!!!

Probably Giuliani or McCain would have the best chance in a general election, but both are underdogs to win the nomination. I don't know much about Romney. My personal favorite is Sen Sam Brownback. He isn't well known now, but should appeal to the party's base.

McCain, Giuliani, Duncan Hunter is running. I do not know if any are electable. I hope there is someone super to take it on. I have heard that Tommy Thompson may run. All of the above have some good qualities, but I don't think any of them are dynamic enough to win.

Play golfing. Have a library equipped such as his call. go back and forth round getting paid ridiculous quantities of money to make speeches. it truly is tremendously time-honored for any president even as they go away place of work.

aahnuuulld schwarzenegger.
I think he'd be about the same as Bush but he'd at least have the advantage that you wouldn't have to send X-thousand troops in to fight a war. The terminator would fly in and handle things himself.

Ron Paul of Texas is the only rational republican that I would vote for.

Unfourtunatly I cannot remember the man's name, as I heard it for the first time today, but they were talking about him on the radio. He was big on the immigration issue (unlike most Reps and Dems of today anyway) and said it wasn't only about jobs, but preserving the American culture. I wish I could remember his name, because I really liked the guy (and if I remember correctly he said he was going to run too)
